We have a long established history of curing and smoking at Dartmouth Smokehouse and are proud to be regarded as one of Britain’s best smokehouses. Quality and taste really matter to us and we use only the finest ingredients, from well known sources, combined with time honoured methods, developed over the years by our master smoker, to produce simply delicious food.
Evolution is integral to the success of the smokehouse and we strive to develop innovative products that are both distinctive and delicious. Our Tomahawk smoked cherry/midi tomatoes are the newest addition and are so flavoursome they even make the sun dried and sun blush varieties seem bland!
We are a family owned business, run by brothers Nick and Ed Obolensky, who grew up in the area and returned to Dartmouth to take over the reins from their father Andrew and his business partner Phillip Watts. Nick has been a keen fisherman all his life and personally selects our fish suppliers according to the fat content, muscle tissue and texture of their fish - all vital specifications for good smoking.
Our commitment to quality is also reflected in our recent accreditation by the RSPCA to sell Freedom Foods and we are now using only Freedom salmon for smoking. These fish are reared in low density pens in well oxygenated water and allowed to feed naturally. The result is a much healthier fish, which in turn produces by far the tastiest smoked salmon and kiln roasted salmon.
We have a rigorous quality checking system in place to ensure that all products leaving the smokehouse meet our high standards in terms of taste, texture and appearance. The final product is finished off in smart trademark blue packaging to make sure it both looks good and, more importantly, stays fresh for as long as possible.
