Known also as “The Abbeville Boys” amongst the Allies, they were a formidable squadron, lead by none other than the charismatic Adolf Galland. Galland was national hero, with style and panache, that the propaganda machine made full use of. He was pictured more times than any other Ace in magazines like Der Adler and Signal, and very soon rose to the rank of General Major. At the age of 30, he was the youngest General in the German armed forces. On the 15th April 1941, Galland was on his way to General Osterkamps birthday party in Le Touquet. Whilst en route, with Lobster and champagne stowed behind his seat in the cockpit, he made a short detour out over the channel – he shot down 3 Spitfires before arriving at the party. His kill record was incredibly impressive – 104 enemy aircraft shot down. For this he was awarded the Knights Cross with Oakleaves, Swords and Diamonds. Only 27 men among the millions who served in the Third Reich ever received this distinguished award Galland flew every variant of the Messerschmitt 109. The Panel we offer here is the E model – the only version which bore his personal emblem of an early version of Disney’s Mickey Mouse. Painted to perfect scale, this panel is a must for all those Luftwaffe historians and enthusiasts. Imagine – Adolf Galland’s 109 panel on your wall – the original would be worth tens of thousands! Please note: These panels are made in extremely limited numbers, by one artist. We will appreciate your understanding, that if we do not have the panel of your choice in stock, there may be some weeks of waiting until we are able to get it in. Many thanks.
