A sailor’s duties are often performed in harsh weather conditions while at sea, thus clothing needed to be durable, warm and functional. Winter jackets, commonly referred to as “Deck Jackets,” met this need. The N-1, which came into service in late ’43, had evolved from an earlier simpler design which was altogether shorter and less protective. Made from a heavy duty dark blue corded cotton, and lined with Alpaca, the N-1 was a superb utility winter garment. The Blue N-1 was produced only for a short time though, and in very small numbers before being superseded in 1944 by a second version manufactured in a khaki colour, of the same heavy corded fabric. So as a collectors item the Blue N-1 is very sought after due to its small production run. Additionally it was the model that was most used in action during D-Day, and is the single most scarce model today of the four USN WWII deck jacket styles. The Buzz Rickson’s reproduction of this model is just superb. They have recreated every detail with unbelievable accuracy: • Superb reproduction of the original USN contract label design printed on 100% cotton fabric. Available in Sizes 36 – 44 | |||||
