After most B-15 type jackets had been recalled to have their fur collars replaced by wool knit (as a post-factory modification), the MA-1 was the first jacket style to come from the factory actually designed with a knit collar. From its conception in 1957, the MA-1 endured as the standard jet pilots flight jacket for more than 30 years. From the Cuban missile crisis, through Vietnam and the Cold War, the MA-1 was the flight jacket of the jet age. Although slight modifications were made to the style, such as an orange coloured lining that appeared in the 1960's, the basic design remained unchanged throughout it's service life. The earliest model MA-1's from 1957 are of course the most collectible. Immediately identifiable with their green lining. Collectors of original flight jackets will always go the extra mile to secure one of these for their collection. But now there is an alternative! Buzz Rickson's reproduction of the 1957 model is of course a superb recreation. They have copied the original maker contract produced by Lion Uniform Inc. reproducing every detail with fastidious accuracy, making this product virtually indistinguishable from its original counterpart.
