The U. S. Army Air Force Type B-9 Winter Flying Jacket was one of several designs intended to replace the sheepskin all-time classic, Type B-3 flying jacket.

Standardized on July 22, 1943, it did not see issue until early 1944. The B-9 was the first cloth parka employed by the USAAF and was designed large enough in size grades to allow for layering over the newly developed Type B-10 Flying Jacket.

It is very warm, having genuine down of goose feathers sandwiched between the outer shell and the rayon satin-quilted lining.

The jacket back has an elastic strip incorporated in the lining to keep the fit snug on the body, while drawstrings of the hood and the sleeves outfitted with wool knit further add to insulative qualities. Two sets of wool-lined pockets are incorporated in the jacket body and a button-down storm flap seals the zipper front from biting winds.

Buzz Ricksons have reproduced the B-9 Flying Jacket to their usual very high authentic standard. Recreating every detail exactly as per the original.

Take note of these authentic features:

• Copy of the original Eddie Bauer-style maker’s label produced on a vintage shuttle loom

• Correct weight and weave three-ply Olive Drab gabardine outer shell to precisely match 1943 USAAF specs.

• Correct USAAF spec. goose down-quilted lining covered in a gorgeous, heavy-weight rayon satin custom made at extreme expense

• Sumptuous, genuine mouton lined hood with fur-padded button-tab throat closure

• Two flap-style lower exterior pockets lined with soft wool, precisely matching 1943 USAAF specs.

• Two hand-warmer upper pockets lined with soft wool, precisely matching 1943 USAAF specs.

• New-Old-stock (NOS) 1943 brass Conmar Comatic zipper on jacket front.

• Correct USAAF-spec. leather pull tab on zipper

• Correct two-ply 100% worsted wool knit cuffs

• Button-front wind flap protector covering zipper closure

• USAAF insignia transfer on left sleeve in subdued black ink

• Button-down shoulder straps for affixing officer rank

• Gussted armpits for greater ease in movement

• Reinforced shoulder yoke and elbows with double-thickness fabric for added durability

• Custom-made off-white rayon drawstrings precisely matching the quality and character of the originals

Available in sizes: 36-42.
The cut of this garment is generous, so customers may well find ordering one size down than they normally would will suffice.
