Standardised for aircrew use in 1939, the B-1 was ubiquitous amongst American airmen, being utilised in all theatres of operation. Every aviator was issued one. They are commonly seen being worn by B-29 crews, including the most experienced bombardment aircraft commander in the A.A.F., Col. Paul Tibbets, of 'Enola Gay' fame. Having been consumed by use, into virtual extinction (not only during the war years but also in the post-war surplus civilian market), original examples today are extremely scarce. All is not lost, for once again, the B-1 is available. Recreated by us to our usual exacting standards. It is reproduced from an extremely high quality, authentic, 10oz 100% worsted wool gaberdine cloth, in the correct light olive drab colour. The cap body is 4 piece construction, with stiff covered visor. Inside, a real leather sweatband is tanned and dyed to authentic spec. This cap is an ideal summer weight companion to any of the American style flying jackets.
