With the coming of the new jet age just after WWII, and having recently become an entity of its own since 1947, the newly designated US Air Force were issued with new, slick looking blue nylon flight jackets. One such model was the B-15C
This new range of blue nylon clothing was to be short lived though, at least as far as the colour was concerned. Now being an independent armed force of their own (having been attached to the Army until 1947), the US Air Force was creating its own kind of corporate identity, and this was in the shade of blue. However, by the mid 50s, in the interest of camoflaging their airmen, they were to revert to a shade of green - sage this time instead of the wartime olive, but nevertheless - green. Making the blue nylon jackets quite unique, as they can be associated to only a narrow period of issue around the time of the Korean war.
Original examples will often realize as high a price as their WWII counterparts (such as the A-2) in the collectors market, and it is true to say, they are actually more rare.
Buzz Rickson's have reproducted an outstanding version of the B-15C. Made from an extremely authentic tough shiny blue nylon, every detail is matched to the original spec. The real mouton sheepskin collar is just sumptuous, and their reproduction of the Crown zipper is stunning.
Their is no need to hunt for an original example of one of these anymore - you're unlikely to find one anyway. These are like unissued original stock, and a third of the price you would have to pay for the original.
Currently available in sizes 36 - 48.
