The year 1950 saw the premiere of what was perhaps the finest cinematic study of WWII aviation ever achieved by a Hollywood studio - Twelve O'Clock High.
Nominated for four Academy Awards, Twentieth Century Fox's production poignantly captured the heroism, human sacrifice, and grim reality of the air war of Europe as no other film, before or since, has managed to do.
Borne out of the efforts of two screen-writers who had been there, the story focuses on a young 8th Air Force general who is brought in to shape-up a demoralized, battle-weary bomber group during the early days of USAAF involvement in Europe.
For flight jacket enthusiasts, this movie is a must-see. Made only a few years after the war itself, all of the flight gear is original. There are a multitude of A-2s, B-3s etc, not to mention all of the aircraft and other hardware. It would be impossible to make a film like this ever again, it is a piece of history in itself. don't miss it!
