Epsom Salt, also known as Magnesium Sulphate is a naturally occurring salt. It has many traditional uses, including as a foot soak to draw out an abscess, and as a purgative to clear the gut of impaction or toxins.
When and How Should I Use Epsom Salt?
As a purgative - Feed a maximum of 75g, usually in a warm bran mash, or in warm sugar beet pulp. Bowel movements usually occur within 6 hours. Do Not Repeat within 24 hours except on the advice of a Veterinary Surgeon.
As a poultice – put 300g in 1 third of a bucket of hand-hot water, and put the foot in it (under supervision) for up to 20 minutes. Repeat 3 to 4 times per day until the infection is removed.
