Lying alongside the former London & South Western main line just west of Vauxhall, Nine Elms shed was a significant locomotive depot as it supplied engines for express services to Bournemouth, Weymouth, Salisbury and the West Country as well as pulling power for local services, freight trains and the endless procession of empty stock to and from Waterloo.
