Dambusters. Photo of a Lancaster signed by one of the crew that took part in the raid.

A reprint of a wartime photo of one of the Lancaster bombers carrying out a test drop of the amazing “bouncing bomb” that was used in the famous Dambusters raid in 1943 during World War 2.

This has been individually signed (not reprinted) by Sqn Ldr GEORGE JOHNSON DFM - the Bomb Aimer on Lancaster AJ-T, piloted by American Joe McCarthy. After ten attempted bombing runs into the Sorpe, George released his bomb to score a direct hit on the earth dam.

There were only 19 aircraft that took part in the raid and many of those were shot down so there never were many surviving aircrew from the raid. Now there are only 5 survivors worldwide so their signatures are becoming more and more rare.

These heroes were immortalised in the classic war film “The Dambusters” and this is now being remade by Peter Jackson of “Lord of the Rings” fame which is sure to rekindle even greater interest along with the 65th anniversary of the raid being this year. The photo measures approx. 10 x 8 inches.

A really great little bit of history.
