Made up entirely of original wartime footage, and narrated by Michael Aspel, this series of WWII documentaries is very professionally constructed, giving a general overview of certain key events that took place during the war. In 'The Phoney War' we see Chamberlain's famous return to Britain with the infamous signed 'piece of paper' that was supposed to guarantee 'peace in our time'. Also his somber radio address to Britain, declaring war on Germany after their invasion of Poland, and later his final resignation as Prime Minister. The archive footage sourced for this series is truly outstanding and well worth a look.
Back cover reads: '1938 - and the Munich Crisis. Germany invades Czechoslovakia and Britain introduces conscription. Trenches are dug and sandbags appear throughout London. Poland is invaded and Britain declares war, London evacuates it's children and the British Expeditionary force embarks for France. Although British shipping is being sunk, this is the 'Phoney War'. Blackout is introduced and road accidents double, Churchill replaces Chamberlain. The BEF is routed in France and the miracle of Dunkirk occurs. De Gualle flies to London as Paris Falls'.
